Transforming Cancer Care in the Heart of British Columbia

With shovels in the ground and vision in motion, the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops is set to transform cancer diagnostics and treatment for communities across British Columbia’s Interior. But this isn’t just another project—it’s the result of a relationship built over time, shaped by consistent delivery, shared values, and a deep commitment to care.

At EllisDon, we lead with integrity, follow through with accountability, and build lasting partnerships rooted in trust. That’s what clients like Interior Health and BC Cancer have come to expect from us—and it’s why we were selected to deliver the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops. Our history of collaboration on projects like the Penticton Regional Hospital, Royal Inland Hospital, and the new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre laid the foundation for this next chapter in healthcare infrastructure.

That trust carried directly into how we approached the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops—from aligning early with the Statement of Requirements to engaging Indigenous communities through our Enhanced Inclusion and Development Agreement (EIDA) team. With the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops, we’re not only helping to advance BC’s 10-Year Cancer Action Plan—we’re reaffirming our commitment to building infrastructure that is technologically advanced, culturally inclusive, and deeply rooted in the communities it serves.

“The new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops is a powerful example of what’s possible when strong partnerships drive purpose,” Craig Enns, Senior Vice President and Area Manager, British Columbia, EllisDon. “This project reflects the trust we’ve built with Interior Health and BC Cancer over time and the shared commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes. It’s a testament to how collaboration, innovation, and cultural respect can come together to shape the future of cancer care in British Columbia.”

At EllisDon, we’re proud to help bring this vision to life through a Progressive Design-Build model, where design and early construction proceed concurrently. This allows us to be more agile and efficient and ensures that there is seamless integration across the project. Our Building Sciences team is applying advanced technical expertise to critical systems, such as concrete thermal control plans for linear accelerators, that demand precision and interdisciplinary coordination. Teams across Operations, Furniture, Equipment and Design (FED), Oxford Builders, and Life Sciences and Technology are working in concert to ensure all systems align with the facility’s design and operational goals.

Concurrently, EllisDon is managing renovations at the Royal Inland Hospital’s main campus and holds the facilities management contract, ensuring continuity across the broader healthcare environment. This dual undertaking exemplifies the complexity EllisDon is uniquely equipped to manage. Our ability to lead across design, construction, and stakeholder engagement—while maintaining the confidence of long-standing partners like Interior Health and BC Cancer—continues to distinguish us in the delivery of healthcare infrastructure.

Our work on the new BC Cancer centre in Kamloops reflects a deep commitment to building spaces that go beyond clinical function—spaces that integrate cutting-edge medical technology with cultural sensitivity and community connection. From the integration of complex systems like concrete thermal control plans for linear accelerators to the inclusion of sacred spaces and Indigenous design elements, every detail is being thoughtfully considered to support healing in all its forms.

We’re excited to stand alongside Interior Health and BC Cancer as they take ambitious action to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. The new BC Cancer centre will stand at the forefront of expanding access to care and improving outcomes for patients today, while preparing for the needs of tomorrow. With innovation, inclusion, and community at its core, this project reflects our commitment to building infrastructure that makes a lasting difference and helps shape the future of cancer care in British Columbia.
