Groundbreaking in North Bay Exemplifies EllisDon’s Impact on Local Communities
At EllisDon, our mission is to create lasting impacts, shaping the communities we work in and the projects we bring to life. It is also special when we have the opportunity to leave our mark on the communities that hold personal significance — places we call home.
Breaking ground on the North Bay Recreation and Community Centre is one of those opportunities for Max Mantha, Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President, Construction.
“This project is particularly meaningful to me,” said Mantha. “North Bay is my hometown, and EllisDon had the opportunity to break ground on a project with my parents watching on. This is more than just another project – it’s a real-life illustration of the impact we strive to create in the communities we cherish.”
Project Highlights
The project brings opportunities for growth in North Bay, in addition to much-needed community space.
- The new community centre will be approximately 85,000 sq. ft. and integrated into the existing Omischl Sports Fields Complex.
- The building is slated to be one of the first net carbon zero recreational facilities in Canada.
- It will include two Hockey Canada standard size ice surfaces, accessible change rooms and washrooms, community room, social heart (lobby), as well as a second level walking track and viewing area.
- The design of the building accommodates indoor and outdoor activities, making it a year-round facility.
The Recreation and Community Centre is scheduled to be completed in summer 2026. We cannot wait to see this complex truly become “A Place for Everyone”.
