The OHS Honours, presented by Ontario Health & Safety Magazine, has honoured EllisDon with a Silver Award in the Psychologically Safe Workplace category. This national recognition reflects our deep commitment to creating a workplace where mental health is supported, valued, and embedded into our culture.

Building a Culture of Care

We have a core belief that safety goes beyond physical protection. True safety includes psychological well-being, and this award affirms the progress we’ve made but also, the exciting road ahead. It reinforces that mental health should be central to how we lead, support, and work together.

From raising awareness through training and education and coaching leaders, we’re building a workplace where psychological safety is felt, and this recognition from OHS Canada tells us we’re on the right track.”

How We’re Doing It

From job sites to offices, we’ve built space for honest dialogue, practical support, and people-first leadership. Our mental health programming includes onboarding modules, certified training for managers and trades teams, company-wide sessions on stress and burnout, navigation of mental health issues for employees, and critical incident support. We’ve hosted global webinars, held workshops across Canada, and marked key dates like Bell Let’s Talk Day and Mental Health Week through storytelling and site events. 

We’re helping shape the future of psychological safety across the construction sector. As active members of the Canadian Construction Safety Alliance, we work alongside other major contractors to develop tools and strategies that support mental well-being. Our Director of Mental Health, Connie Ellis, chairs the CSRA’s mental health subgroup, driving meaningful change across the industry.

This award is a milestone, but more importantly, it’s proof that we’re investing time, money, and effort into building a workplace where psychological safety isn’t just a goal—it’s a standard.
